An environmental group based in Limerick City, working to ban the use of glyphosate by Limerick City and County Council.

“Our position on pesticides is that they are harmful to pollinators, biodiversity, and human health, and should be avoided entirely except if required to manage invasive species.”

Welcome to Beyond Pesticides Limerick!

ABOUT US

  • We are an environmental group based in Limerick City, though we have extensive membership in the county as well. Read more about us and what we stand for HERE.

  • Our main goal is eliminating the use of glyphosate-based herbicides by the LCCC in all public spaces

  • Glyphosate is being used regularly and freely on foot paths, edges of greens, tree bases etc and is a danger to public health and biodiversity

  • Let’s come together to end this out-dated practice!

Biodiversity in Ireland

Ireland has a brilliant National Biodiversity Data Centre who initiated the Pollinator Plan (https://pollinators.ie/) and other resources to end the liberal use of harmful pesticides in Ireland.

Their stance is that pesticides are harmful to everyone and should only be used to manage invasive species.

  • In 2019 the Limerick City and County Council signed up to the Pollinator Plan which asks government bodies to reduce pesticides with the goal to phase out completely. They are meant to report on this annually. They signed it, now let’s hold them accountable!

  • Our Limerick Biodiversity Officer is Sinead McDonnell, if you have any questions about this or if you’d like to voice your concerns you can email:

Our Main Campaigns

Residents of Limerick have come together to end the use of glyphosate based weedkiller by the City and County Council.

We envision our town a place where children can stop to pick a dandelion without fear that minutes ago it was sprayed with poison.

Glyphosate:

How can You help?

Head over to our GET INVOLVED page for a list of email addresses. Every email you send tells the LCCC that the public is aware of their dangerous practice and wants it to end. It’s been done in many counties across Ireland, we can do it in Limerick!

You can also make a statement by requesting that your street or avenue be Blacklisted and added to the ‘No Spray List’ in the Council.

Contact Liam Browne - liam.browne@limerick.ie to do this.
